New Crosskart Mtec Tiger and its First Race

By Team  On 29.1.2018 In Race News

On the past weekend FinRX – Marttila Sprint race was driven and the brand new Mtec Tiger 85cc was there as a participant first time under the public eye to see. Mtec Tiger is the first Crosskart manufactured by Mtec Formula Technology. Model Tiger is compatible with 85cc, 125cc and 250cc regulations in Finnish Championship race series. First prototype was made for Ilari Sääskilahti to be competed on 2018 85cc Finnish Championship racing season.

On the event Tiger received a lot of attention with its new innovations and exceptional looks compared to other competing manufaturers crosskarts. In race it became clear how smooth and effortless the driving was with the Tiger compared to other crosskarts now that we saw it for the first time in same track conditions as others. The driver liked the handling aswell and described that he doesn’t need to force the Tiger through corners unlike his previous crosskart. We did take special attention to detail when designing the front suspension to give some extra grip to the front for cornering balancing the whole car overall. We learned a lot new and more improvement ideas came from our own team as well from other competitors. It was nice to see how positive the reception was from the organisers and other competitors for the first Crosskart manufactured in Finland.

On the downside in the sprint race we had problems with motor and gearbox. Motor was lacking torque on low rpm and gears didn’t shift properly. In addition on the last run the spark plug lead came off 10m before the finish line dropping Ilari from 2nd place to last when all sprint run times were counted together. On the positive side for Mtec is that these technical difficulties didn’t relate to chassis stucture and the handling seemed to work well. For the next FinRX Sprint in Raahe the motor and other technicalities will be fixed and we can wait for better results.

We have beginned the manufacturing of new crosskarts and the chassis development continues according to feedback and suggestions we received. This is a good place to go forward!
