Second round of BMW Xtreme cup was driven last week end in sunny Auto24ring, Pärnu, Estonia.
The week end started with trouble when the freshly rebuilt engine in car #21 lasted only two fast laps and broke down. The block in which it was built seemed good, but was broken already when it was bought. Special thank you to Ants Racing for their help at getting a new engine very fast to the race track!
While the engine was changed to #21 all four drivers were practising with #12. Also #12 had to be prepared when a broken front suspension had to be welded.
Friday practise went well, but the first race day started a bit less joyfully. On the way to weighing the car the steering rack of #12 started to jam and it had to be changed before qualifyings, thus Miikka Mäkelä and Marko Vähämäki missed the warm up session. Soon after that the car #21 started to smoke from the engine bay. A small electric fire was loose in the wiring loom. The melted wire was detected and the loom was prepared so thay the car was running. Further inspection has to be done before the next race.
For the first short race Marko Vähämäki in #12 started from P8 and Milla Mäkelä in #21 started from P19. Marko made a strong performance bringing the car home in P6. Milla fought at the tail of the main group up until a brake line leak occurred 6 laps before finishing the race. Milla dropped to the last place on the last lap, but managed to bring the car over the line.
In the second race Miikka Mäkelä in #12 took a dream start from P12 rising to P6 and keeping the position all the way till the end. Mika Vähämäki in #21 started from P6 and was running firmly on 4th place before was pushed out and dropped to the tail of the group.
For the long 45min race #12 started from P9 and #21 from P14. Marko was climbing up and brought car #12 to the driver change in P4. Miikka fought hard in the group from P4 to P7 bringin the car home on good points in P7. Mika had a gear problem in the start with car #21 and he dropped far back from everyone else before he got the car moving. He did a great job rising up and brought the car to the driver change in P9. Milla fought for the positions from P9 to P12, but then a rookie mistake spin dropped her to the back finishing in P15.
All in all the results were good after such an amount of work done. Firm points to #12 and #21 lasted thorough the long race without any problems!
Next up is the 50th anniversary race of Ahvenisto in Hämeenlinna on 3rd and 4th of June. Our drivers like the track so we look forward to climb up the grid then!
